CIR UMN Unity Break for an ICE-free Workplace

Resident physicians and fellows at the University of Minnesota unionized with CIR/SEIU last year because we believed in our fundamental right to a voice at the table about our working conditions as physicians. In this urgent moment, we are calling for a unity break to use that collective voice to demand the working conditions and care environment that will allow us to do our best work as doctors.

THAT MEANS, FIRST AND FOREMOST, ICE OUT OF OUR HOSPITALS AND OUT OF OUR COMMUNITY. We are in contract negotiations right now fighting for what we need to care for ourselves, our families, and our patients, who come from the Twin Cities and far beyond. To do our work as doctors, to uphold the mission of these hospitals, and to effectively treat immigrant patients and everyone in our care, we need an ICE-free workplace and an ICE-free city, now. We need an ICE-free Minnesota, now.

Your UMN organizing committee and bargaining committee has joined a coalition of unions to demand that ICE leave our workplaces and our State, and will take action together on Friday 1/23 at 12:30pm. CIR union members (those not with patients, on authorized breaks, or off duty) and allies will join for a 20 minute unity break in front of West Bank, East Bank, and Hennepin Surgery Center to rally and demand better for ourselves as workers, our patients, and the community.

This is not a work-stoppage, slow down, strike, or picket, but rather a brief unity break to collectively demand an end to these attacks on our coworkers, patients, and community.

I will join my colleagues on Friday, 1/23 at 12:30pm in our unity break at:
