Elleanna:

Pia:

I am doing this walk because every single human being has inalienable rights, no matter what border or continent. I am the granddaughter of first generation Americans, and I believe that we must treat all with basic human dignity, especially if they immigrate here. No one is illegal on stolen land.

Henry:

I tutored many refugees in high school, one of whom lost his first girlfriend to the shrapnel of a grenade. All of them had travelled hundreds of miles in search of a better life, so I’ll gladly walk 26 if it means they have a chance of finding a better one.

Bo:

I'm Bo Bednar, a junior at St. John's College, hoping to work in criminal justice reform. I'm walking because I believe in CASA's mission: immigrants make our community richer, and should be treated with compassion, respect, and dignity. 

Dash:

I am walking to raise money for CASA because I believe everybody has the right to live a good life. The United States government is, and has been, set on making this right a privilege, something which many marginalized people do not have. By walking, or helping in any way at all, a person is not only directly aiding said marginalized people, but they are also inspiring other people to act as well.

Ailene:

I am walking because I want to support CASA’s vitally important work of protecting our immigrant communities, and to do whatever I can to stand up to injustice and violation of due process.

Jack:

This is why I am walking: the very body meant to uphold the law is deliberately and overtly breaking it. People’s rights are in danger, and I won’t stand for it.

Carmen:

I am walking for Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was illegally detained, imprisoned, and deported by ICE without due process.

Tom:

I'm walking because I believe no one should be taken from their home without proper representation before the law.

Davin:

I'm joining the walk to support my community and the amazing advocates at CASA. Maryland is a diverse, beautiful state, and we're at our best when we all stand up for each other.

Ximenez:

My name is Ximenez, and I am helping to raise money for CASA because the United States is, as reported by the Lemkin Institute of Genocide Prevention and Human Security, using ICE and deportations to create a global network of concentration camps and human trafficking. I do not want people to become the currency of the rich, and so I will be joining everybody walking in Annapolis! Wish us luck, we’ll need it just as much as you will.

Riona:

We desperately need effective organizations like CASA, whose capability and record of winning broader policy victories, as well as providing crucial services to vulnerable individuals, make its work indispensable in the fight to protect human rights and democracy itself.

Maddox:

I discovered CASA while attending Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s deportation hearing, and their devotion to supporting the immigrants in our community inspired me to walk, in the hope that we can raise awareness and funds to help protect our community members from blatant persecution by DHS ICE and the current administration.

Gabriel:

I'm participating because every member of my community deserves a voice. ICE is destroying due process, separating families, and killing people. I hope this walk is able to raise life-changing funds to help people who are being silenced.

Nic:

I'm walking for immigrants' rights because I believe that everyone should be able to work, live, and raise a family in America. The government should not be able to destroy people's work, life, and family because of their language or the color of their skin.

Elena:

I am from Santa Fe, New Mexico, and I am currently a student at St. John’s College. I was raised by resilient women who immigrated from Mexico and created a life from the ground up, and I am walking to honor their sacrifices and the strength it took to create a better life for their families. Further, I am walking to honor my Native American heritage.

Jacob:

I’m walking for CASA to support policy change in the United States. The American government should uphold the dignity of each person, and it is currently failing to do so.

Kaelin:

The United States continues to create a hostile and deadly environment for immigrants— people that we have profited off of for centuries. I’m walking in protest against the violence being done to these innocent people who all possess unalienable rights. Immigrants must be protected!

Jacob:

It’s often said that the United States is “the land of the free”. I’m walking because I want that to be true.

Sasha:

I’m walking because I want to ensure the safety of everyone in my community, and remind myself and others that the road to a safe and connected community will be paved with our own efforts to protect each other. Change for the good of our community and country will be its own marathon to run, and I want to show alongside my classmates and friends that we are ready and able to go the distance.

Clara:

I am walking for my community because freedom and justice should not be negotiable rights. All of us should be treated as people, and it is up to each and every one of us to make sure that this is maintained for everyone regardless of their nationality or background.

I am walking because of the dignity of mankind, and because I believe this country should not be an impediment with respect to that dignity. Rather, this country ought to be a resplendent spring of that same dignity which rests in the hearts of all mankind. Including, of course, those who come from far away and speak languages other than my own.
