Growing up in the Northeast, I have been a champion for rapid transit on the Boulevard since I was old enough to understand public transportation. As an elected official, I overwhelmingly agreed to join when Jay Arzu called to ask if I would partner with him on the public transportation project. Rapid transit on Roosevelt Boulevard is so close to becoming a reality, but we need your help.
First proposed in 1913, a Roosevelt Boulevard rapid-transit rail line has been proposed and studied multiple times. A subway was considered so inevitable in the 1960s that a station was built. We don't need another study to tell us what we already know: the Northeast deserves a rapid transit line now.
The truth is in the numbers. A study showed rapid transit on Roosevelt Blvd would serve 124,500 daily riders diverting roughly 83,300 daily trips from cars to transit. Downtown commute time would be cut in half, saving motorists and transit users an estimated 12,900 hours of travel time per day. We must bring rapid transit to the BLVD.
The Northeast must be connected to jobs, opportunities, and the rest of the city. We must bring rapid transit to Roosevelt Boulevard.
If the Roosevelt Boulevard project is done right, it could be one of the nation's most beautiful public works projects. We could surround it with green spaces, public art, and businesses ready to thrive with more accessibility. It's time Philadelphia lead the country again in innovation. Please join us and sign your name to bring a rapid transit line to the Northeast on Roosevelt Boulevard.
