350 Colorado recently released a report on showing that students, staff, and community at Bella Romero Academy in Greeley have been routinely exposed to levels of benzene above 8-hour health standards that are most appropriate for schools from Extraction's neighboring fracking site.
We are calling on Governor Polis to direct the Colorado Department of Public Health to:
#1 Suspend Extraction's operations at Bella Romero Academy and shut in the wells.
#2 Adopt the most protective standards for toxic emissions from oil and gas sites near occupied buildings and especially by schools.
#3 Preemptively model and continuously monitor the emissions at these sites and make the data available to the public in real time online.
#4 Issue warnings whenever these thresholds are approached and immediately shut down operations if they exceed standards.
